“How do you spend your free time? If I’m not running around in the Scottish hills, then I’m encouraging the next generation to! I’ve volunteered as expedition assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme for a few years now, so between May and September I can be found watching groups of heavily-laden young people navigate their way through everything Scotland can throw at them; midges, heat, freezing cold, rain, steep hills (did I mention the midges?!), as well as coping with team dynamics when tired/ cold/ hot/ – all while being attacked by the fearsome Scottish midge.

For me it is all about encouraging the next generation to develop the skills to be self-reliant as well as work in a team, be open to learning and to explore the world, equipping them for success”.
