What’s here?
Field-scale outcrops of fractured Permian Rotliegendes sand dunes and interdune. Smaller outcrops of Triassic fluvial braided fluvial systems. Both directly analogous to North Sea reservoirs.
The course is designed for Geoscientists, Petrophysicists, Reservoir Engineers, Well engineers, team leaders and managers. Ideally structured for groups working in multi-discipline teams, especially those engaged in reservoir and simulation modelling exercises.

Fractures: both sealing faults and open joint systems.
Varied diagenetic history overprinting the depositional architecture.
Supported by oil and gas field log and core data which has been scaled to the outcrops and supplemented by outcrop minipermeametry. The data has been used to build outcrop-based static and dynamic reservoirs models for a range of fluid fills.
An ideal backdrop for discussions on scales of heterogeneity, and can easily be combined with class-based sessions as the outcrops are only a short drive from the hotels in Elgin.
Access
All coastal but key outcrops are not tide-dependent. Coach access to the coast and short walks along coastal paths.

Fly in to Aberdeen or Inverness; coach or train transfer to the Elgin area Hotels in Elgin: groups from 9 to 90 people catered for.

Mark develops and runs courses in the Open Air, Reservoir, E&P, Uncertainty & Risk and Energy Transition series for TRACS. He has a career background at Shell, AGR, TRACS and Langdale Geoscience. He has served as a distinguished lecturer for SPE and EAGE, acted as Training Director for TRACS and is an Associate Professor Heriot-Watt University. He is also co-author of the textbook ‘Reservoir Model Design’.

John tutors courses in the Reservoir and Open Air series. He has a career background at Gaps, University of Liverpool, University of Bergen, Rocksource ASA, and the University of Aberdeen. John has published over 120 scientific articles and edited five books.

Richard runs courses in Reservoir and Business & Risk series. He has a career background at BP, AGR and TRACS. Richard is a global advisor, business planning & economic analysis.
Training Manager
25+ years
As Training Manager, Maggie takes direct responsibility for the global TRACS Training Programme. As Events Lead, Maggie organises and runs all open-air events involving in-country logistics and is an HSE representative in the field. She also organises all classroom events and provides support to tutors. She has worked in the retail industry and had a long career as an in-flight supervisor for KLM, which, coupled with a fluent grasp of languages, has provided her with the skills and knowledge needed as a Training Manager dealing with clients around the globe.
