Tubing Stress Analysis

The five-day course will enable participants to fully understand how to use WELLCAT (Tube and Prod) for day to day tubing stress analysis on a variety of different completion configurations. The use of Prod for pressure and temperature prediction. How to check WELLCAT input and results against hand calculations. Improving completion designs with respect to reducing stresses.

Course Content

The course can be tailored for specfic areas, but will cover any or all of the following:

  • Principles of stress and strain within metals
  • Burst, collapse, axial and triaxial loads
  • Impact of different materials
  • Load generation for tubing and casing
  • Definition of full set of load cases
  • Heat transfer and trapped annuli effects
  • The use, abuse and checking of computer programs
  • The use of Wellcat software
  • Worked examples (hand and computer)
  • The impact and calculation of loads on connections, packers, hangers and other components
