Participants will explore the economic, financial, technological, and regulatory factors that influence investment decisions in renewable energy assets such as solar, wind, and other clean technologies.

The course begins with an overview of renewable energy markets and the technological advancements that have driven significant cost reductions. It then introduces core valuation techniques, including Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) and Residual Income (Economic Value Added – EVA) methods, with a focus on their application to long-term infrastructure projects.

Participants will examine how the cost of capital is determined for renewable energy projects and how policy frameworks, regulatory environments, and government incentives affect project risk and returns. Key commercial arrangements such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), carbon pricing mechanisms, and subsidies are analysed to understand their role in enhancing revenue certainty and project bankability.

The course also covers project finance structures commonly used in renewable energy investments, highlighting risk allocation between equity and debt providers. Advanced valuation tools such as real options, scenario analysis, risk adjustments, and sensitivity analysis are introduced to address uncertainty and flexibility in project decision-making.

The course concludes with practical illustrations and real-world project examples to reinforce learning, followed by an online multiple-choice quiz to assess participants’ understanding of key concepts.
